"I  started writing
to make me sane,
and now I write
to keep me sane"

writing

My life as a writer began when I was in 7th grade.

I had decided to start collecting in a tiny notebook the phrases I came across in books or newspapers that gave me goosebumps.

I would carry it with me in my pencil-case.

A touchstone of sorts.

It was the goosebumps that made me realize the power of words.

When I fell in love for the first time at 16, I wrote my first song.

It was impossible to keep such new, big, and deep emotions contained.

They needed an outlet that wasn't simply speaking.

I needed to breathe the words melodically,

sing them as an exhale, so that my feet could find the ground again.

I have now been writing songs for more than 30 years

and am more in love with the process than ever.

Writing is a profoundly realistic and magical way to transmute and transcend

to express, to expel, to clear out, and to clarify.

It's only easy to be a non-writer because you don't know what you're missing.

But once a writer, always a writer.

Because becoming who you are is never finished.

And we all need tools to help us look beneath the next layer of our own mystery.

The pen is mightier than the sword because it is a shovel,

excavating what's hidden in the shadows

so that it may reveal itself in the light.

Substack

I joined Substack in the fall of 2023 under the moniker Post Post Modern.

As ever, I was in pursuit of discovering what is true amidst the lies

running rampant in both the culture surrounding me

as well as underlying my conditioned beliefs.

Writing helped me to sort through the whirlwind of ideas that were

dancing around in my head, seeking order in the chaos.

Nearly three years, 80 posts, 1 rebrand, and several friendships later,

I can honestly say that Substack has been life-changing for me.

I regularly share new art and music I create, and write articles about such things as the nature of reality and being a human on the journey of becoming.
